Scott Dexter
I joined CSE as a Lecturer in 2024 after earning my PhD here in 1998. In the intervening years, I served as a professor of computer science at Brooklyn College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and then at Alma College in central Michigan. I also spent time at Brooklyn College as director of general education and then as director of the Center for Teaching and Learning.
I am married to Amy Hughes, Professor of Theatre and Drama at the U-M School of Music, Theatre, and Dance and Associate Director of the ADVANCE program at U-M.
Outside computer science, I have been a student of the Persian kamancha since about 2004, including a year-long intensive with Arslan Hazreti in İstanbul. I am currently studying the radif (classical Iranian music theory and repertoire) with Mehrnam Rastegari.
